Frequently Asked Questions

Overview questions:

Q What does an individual course program look like?

This depends entirely on your needs and goals. It is common to choose a book for the structure in case of a level increase with grammar. In case of conversation, the options are broader and the teacher usually looks at the vocabulary you will need in practice, for example at work.

Through an informal intake, the teacher will determine your level and goals and make a proposal. These are usually packages of 10 to 20 contact hours that can be extended as desired.

Q What is the advantage of private lessons?

With an individual course, you get maximum benefit from your time and the content is tailored solely to your own needs, goals and learning profile. In combination with sufficient commitment in terms of homework and self-study, this usually achieves very good results.

This format is also suitable if you need some customization, such as learning to write better letters for work or practicing certain jargon. It also works well to help people get over uncertainty in speaking a language.

If it is about learning the language in general and there is no time pressure or specialized needs, then a group course is usually more convenient, also in terms of price. You can weigh this for yourself. Usually it is possible to add free lessons in ongoing group courses for extra practice. You can discuss this with the reception and the teacher.

Q What does immersion entail? Can you learn for 6 hours a day?

Immersion courses are somewhat TaalTaal's flagship course. Students receive 60 hours of instruction in 2 weeks. This is a different format than regular classes. It is a varied program that includes many practical exercises.

The outcome is that to their own surprise, a student can speak a little in the language after only 2 weeks. A variety of techniques are used to achieve this, including talking to people in Dutch during lunch breaks.

At the moment there is only immersion for Dutch and English, but if you want it for another language, you can always contact us. Groups of 3 participants or more are guaranteed to go ahead.

Q What is the difference between an intensive and a private track?

The main difference is the intensity. In an intensive course, for example, you do 15 hours in 1 week. This often involves lessons of 3 hours. In this way you will progress very quickly, but you will also have to spend time on self-study and homework.

In case of a regular private course, we agree for example on 10 lessons of 2 hours (20 hours in total). Usually, these are weekly lessons. We then recommend that you do something with the language every day, even if it is 5 to 10 minutes.

Which option works best for you depends on your overall objective. If you need to pass an exam on short notice, intensive is better. If you have a little more time, then a regular course may be more beneficial, also because you will have more leeway in terms of content.

During an intake the teacher will discuss the possibilities with you. The outcome may be that a group course is more favorable, but then you are bound to the days and times of the group.

Q Can I use All-You-Can-Talk?

Yes, if you have taken a paid course with us, you may still attend these conversation sessions for free up to 1 year after the last class. Currently it is only for Dutch, English and Spanish. If there is enough interest, we can also schedule sessions for other languages upon request.

Q What happens if I am the only application for immersion?

Unfortunately, it happens that other students cancel or reschedule their course at the last minute. We understand that people have often already arranged accommodations for immersion.

We have chosen a lenient policy: if you have registered for a 60-hour immersion course and you are the only one, you will be offered 25 hours of intensive private instruction as an alternative. That amounts to a 40% discount.

Thus, we guarantee that you will be offered a high-quality course with maximum return.
